Port Adelaide Football Club (PAFC) & Australian Gas Networks (AGN) has helped to put an additional 27,000 meals on the tables of vulnerable South Australians this Christmas.
PAFC along with AGN partnered for the “Goals to End Hunger” campaign with $100 donated to Foodbank for every home goal scored by the Power at the Adelaide Oval in 2018.
As well as a $13,400 donation, staff from PAFC and AGN combined last month to pack a record, nearly 500 Christmas Hampers at Foodbank SA’s Edwardstown headquarters.
PAFC Chief Executive, Keith Thomas, was on hand with Chief Customer Officer, Andrew Staniford, to present the donation cheque to Foodbank SA’s CEO Greg Pattinson and to join the Christmas hamper packing team.
Mr Thomas said the latest “Goals to End Hunger” results meant that since 2015 the Club has put more than 118,000 meals on the table of those in need via Foodbank SA.
“We think everyone has the right to a decent meal, especially during the Festive Season,” Mr Thomas said.
“Foodbank SA provides a service that is so important to some of the state’s most vulnerable people and we are proud to have teamed with AGN to play a small part in the exceptional work it does.”
Foodbank SA CEO, Greg Pattinson thanked PAFC and AGN for their support.
“Christmas is our busiest time of the year at Foodbank SA when so many vulnerable South Australian families rely on our service,” he said.
“The support of Port Adelaide and AGN is invaluable in ensuring we have the ability to keep up with the demand for service, especially in the Festive Season.
“At Foodbank SA, we provide over 117,000 South Australians every month with food relief. One third of these being children.”
“These Christmas hampers will be distributed by Foodbank in coming weeks to some of South Australia’s most vulnerable families.”
Andrew Staniford said the hamper packing had become a Christmas tradition for his staff.
“Christmas is an ideal time for all of us to reflect on our personal lives and what we can all do to have a positive impact on others,” he said.
“It is therefore pleasing to AGN and its staff to be able to embrace the true spirit of Christmas by being involved in such a winning team day for Foodbank SA.”
