For the third consecutive year, Foodbank SA and the Westfield Centre Group have worked together to put more than 15,000 meals on the tables of South Australians in need.
During the month of July, Westfield once again collaborated with Foodbank for their annual “Westfield Food Drive”. Food donation bins were located at Coles and Woolworths supermarkets at Westfield Marion, Tea Tree Plaza and West Lakes from 1 July to 31 July 2018. We asked South Australians to ‘share what they can’ by donating non-perishable items bought from a store, or donating an extra can they had in their cupboards.
We are pleased to advise that our supporters answered the call, an equivalent to 7,631 kg of non-perishable food and change was donated during the food drive. This was enough to distribute an additional 15,260 meals to those in need during July.
Each year Foodbank relies heavily on the generous donations of Westfield shoppers and Foodbank supporters.
We couldn’t do it without our amazing Foodbank SA volunteers who contributed more than 384 volunteer hours, accepting donations, handing out flyers and spreading the word about the campaign during the month, as well as the South Australian community can-donors for their generous support.
Once again, we say a huge thank you to Westfield for helping vulnerable South Australians in need.
It’s unfortunate that in the last 12 months Foodbank has seen a 21 percent increase in demand for food by vulnerable South Australians. If you are interested in helping to make a difference by running your own food drive for Foodbank, please click here.
