On Friday 28 July 2017, Foodbank SA held a pop up at the Hart’s Mill, Port Adelaide.
The Pop up commenced with a line out the door of vulnerable South Aussies, with hundreds of people attending during the brisk morning to access food relief. From the free sausage sizzle or smoothies, free raffles, knitted items by the Adelaide Knit and Natter Group and access to both non-perishable items and fresh fruit and vegetables, these events are a welcomed gift by those that need it the most. It ‘feeds hope’ for some of the most vulnerable in our society.
Although the event was mainly aimed at the local Port Adelaide region, people travelled from some distance to access the pop-up. The morning highlighted that it isn’t just the homeless or those from low socio-economic areas experiencing food insecurity, these are mothers, fathers, families, every day South Australians just doing it tough and needing support at this time.
“Foodbank has helped me so much. I used to be homeless and lived in my car for a while. I want to make a $10 donation today. I don’t know what I would have done without your help.” – Foodbank SA pop up attendee
“Amazing how kind and generous people are. This really helps a lot of people. One day when we have money we are going to give back like this.” – Foodbank SA pop up attendee
The event was a huge success thanks to the generous sponsorship of BHP Communities, and the amazing volunteers
who supported the day. Without this funding we would not be able to deliver this important service.
The next Foodbank SA Pop-Up will be held on Friday, 22nd September in Noarlunga. This event will be proudly supported by Adelaide Airport.
